David Kau, a South African comedian, gained mainstream recognition through co-creating and producing "The Pure Monate Show" in 2003. Born near Kroonstad, he matriculated in 1994 and pursued a Performers' Diploma in Speech and Drama at the University of Cape Town, graduating in 1998. His comedy career began at the Smirnoff International Comedy Festival in 1998, leading to numerous festival headlinings and his stand-up show, "Blacks Only." Kau hosted the Channel O Music Video Awards in 2006, co-presented Nelson Mandela's 46664 concert in 2007, and received the inaugural Mzansi Star Comedian award in 2008. He also hosted and judged the SABC1 reality talent show "So You Think You're Funny!" from its premiere on November 4, 2008.
