5B NEW MUSIC INTERVIEW - MAX MORE
There are people who spend their early twenties trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives. And then there’s our next guest, who at 20 has apparently decided: “Cool, I’ll just sing the songs, write the songs AND produce the songs.” Max More has been quietly building some serious momentum in South African pop. His song “High” spent more than 24 weeks on the 5FM Top 40, topped the Indie Chart for three consecutive weeks, and then “Hot & Heavy” went to number one on the Indie Chart too. Now he’s back with a brand-new single called “Cherry”; and this one might be the clearest picture yet of exactly who Max More wants to be as an artist. Max, welcome to 5 Breakfast.

5B INTERVIEW - “BORN AFTER THE FIRE” WITH LUDWEKAZI NDLAZI AND NAMILE MKHIZE (18 AUG 26)
This morning on 5 Breakfast, we’re getting into a new SABC1 documentary series called Born After The Fire. The series marks the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprisings by looking at South Africa through the eyes of the generation born into democracy - the young people who inherited the freedom others fought for, but are still living with the unanswered questions around education, unemployment, leadership, opportunity and equality. Across 13 weeks, Born After The Fire uses June 16 as both a historical anchor and a mirror for the present. Each episode connects the legacy of 1976 to the issues shaping South Africa now: education, employment, entrepreneurship, social justice, technology, health, arts and culture, identity and nation-building. What makes the series powerful is that it is not just looking back. It is asking whether the dreams of the young people who marched for freedom have actually been realised, and what responsibility this generation now has in shaping the next 50 years of South Africa.
5B I BET YOU CAN'T FIND - LET GO AT WORK FOR A STUPID REASON
5B NEARLY LOSING 1 MILLION EUROS
A woman in Italy is being declared the “luckiest person alive” after she recovered a lost lottery ticket worth the equivalent of 18 million rand. She had initially thrown away her ticket at a shop after thinking it was worthless. When she got home, her family told her that her numbers that she always plays were read out. After rushing back to the shop, they discovered that the bin she threw it in had already been emptied which sparked a 2 day search at a rubbish site with waste workers which eventually resulted in it being found. How far would you go to find a lotto ticket? What is the most valuable thing you have ever lost?

5B MONEY MONDAYS - PINK TAX WITH THULI MAGUBANE (17 AUG 26)
It’s Monday, which means it’s time to stretch your money mindset on Money Mondays with Xoli Zondo and Thuli Magubane. This week, because it’s Women’s Month, we’re talking about something called the female tax. And no, this is not an official SARS category hiding somewhere between PAYE and VAT. The female tax is the extra financial pressure women often carry simply because of gender; from beauty and grooming expectations, to safety costs, caregiving responsibilities, period products, clothing standards, career interruptions, and sometimes even paying more for similar products marketed specifically to women. So the big question is: Is the female tax real? How does it show up in everyday life? And what can women actually do to reduce it, challenge it, or plan around it? Because money is not always just about what you earn. Sometimes it is also about the invisible costs society expects you to carry.
