The Federation of Unions of South Africa, FEDUSA, has kicked off its 8th National Congress in Kempton Park, putting key socio-economic challenges right at the top of its agenda.  The rising cost of living, immigration, and navigating the future of work have taken centre stage at the three-day gathering. The event has brought together about 500 delegates, including organised labour, government, business and international labour representatives. ANC Deputy President, Paul Mashatile says they will always humble themselves despite being accused of arrogance. He was reacting to the backlash from Cosatu leaders after the ANC's National Chairperson, Gwede Mantashe walked out of the federation's national congress on Monday. Mantashe was not happy about speaking before the SACP and SANCO, saying it's not in keeping with alliance traditions. He insisted on speaking last and after being denied he walked out. A suspect is expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court in Ekurhuleni tomorrow (Thursday 15 October) in connection with the deadly mass shooting that claimed the lives of four ANC Youth League members in Katlehong last night. Three other people are being treated for injuries in hospital. According to the Police in Limpopo these successes were recorded during their highdensity operations conducted from 5 to 11 October 2026.

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has condemned a deadly shooting in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, which left four people dead and three others injured.The shooting happened on Tuesday, October 13, in Sophangisa Street, Nhlapo Section, during a procession following a memorial service for an ANC Youth League member who was killed about two weeks ago.Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili says seven people were shot during the incident. Three others sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.Police have confirmed that a suspect is in custody. Investigations into the shooting are continuing. The School Governing Body at a school that was gutted by fire last Friday, is calling on the provincial Education Department to fix their fence.  The SGB of Tiragalo Secondary School in Kgakala Location near Leeudoringstad in the North West, says this will assist in curbing ongoing burglary and theft. This, as the block of classrooms was gutted by fire as a result of a break-in, in the early hours of Friday last week. Currently, teaching and learning have been suspended until Thursday, to allow police to conclude their investigation. The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) began voting for its top six leadership positions after lunch today (Tuesday 13 October) at its 15th National Congress in Kempton Park. This follows a chaotic start to the congress in September, which collapsed due to fierce leadership factions and eligibility disputes. The votng process was managed by an independent electoral instititute, EISA (Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy). The outcome of the vote on who will be the national office bearers at Cosatu will be announced on the final day of the congress today on Wednesday (14/10/2026). The case against pastor Caiphus Mkhawane and his two co-accused -- Ntsako Mathebula and Amanda Mnguni -- has been postponed to Friday for further investigation. The trio appeared briefly before the Atteridgeville Magistrates' Court in Pretoria on Monday. They face charges linked to the death of a four-month old baby -- while Mkhawane is also accused of raping the infant’s mother.
