President Cyril Ramaphosa says he will not make public his reasons for dismissing SisisiTolashe as the minister of Social Development. Earlier today his office sent out a statement that he had sacked Tolashe and that Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga will act in the portfolio. Tolashe has come under fire recently for allegedly misleading Parliament about vehicles she received from the Chinese embassy on behalf of the ANC Women's League, as well as revelations about alleged irregular appointments and contract extensions in her department. Cosatu says it vehemently rejects the composition of Parliament's Impeachment committee. Parliament has confirmed that National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza met with Chief Whips yesterday and presented proposals on the Impeachment Committee. Media reports say a decision was made that the committee will consist of 31 members. The Impeachment Committee is a result of a Constitutional Court ruling last Friday, that such a committee should be established, to look into allegations of foreign currency stolen from a couch on President Cyril Ramaphosa's Phala Phala farm in 2020. Data released by Statistics South Africa points to a reduction in both formal and informal sector employment, which dropped by 189-thousand and 127-thousand respectively. The quarterly labour force survey revealed that the official unemployment rate rose by one-point-three percent from 31-point-four percent in the last quarter of 2025 to 32-point-seven percent in the first quarter of this year. Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly raped a 22-year-old woman in the Thohoyandou CBD on Friday night. Police say the woman was walking from home when two unidentified suspects threatened her with knives and forced her into a secluded passage. Police spokesperson Pfunzo Ramudzuli says they repeatedly raped her and robbed her of her cellphone and money. Police management in Limpopo say additional officers are undergoing training in the investigation and handling of gender-based violence and sexual assault cases.
