The presidency has dismissed reports that President Cyril Ramaphosa requested a state visit to Ghana. Responding to media reports that are circulating in West Africa, the presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says there was no planned visit to Ghana. However, Accra was supposed to host Bi-national Commission after agreement was reached during the last BNC that Ghana will be the next host. Ghanaian High Commissioner in South Africa Benjamin Quashie says there's no diplomatic row between Accra and Pretoria. He spoke to SABC News as African diplomatic missions are repatriating their citizens. Quashie says they will continue to work with South African authorities on the matter. ANC First Deputy Secretary-General, Nomvula Mokonyane, has commended South Africans who exercised their right to protest against undocumented immigrants for remaining within the bounds of the law. This comes after civic groups led the nationwide protests today, calling for action against undocumented migrants.
Two incidents in Soweto and Pietermaritzburg have reignited concerns over violence. A 21-year-old South African from Pimville was allegedly assaulted after being mistaken for a foreign national, while protesters forced their way into a Pietermaritzburg home, accusing a South African woman of harbouring undocumented foreign nationals.
