Against All Odds | 19 August 2026

South Africa has a population of around 62 million people, with approximately 3.3 million living with disabilities. Yet, people with disabilities continue to face discrimination, social isolation, and institutional barriers that can limit their participation in society and, in some cases, confine them to their homes. Too often, people living with disabilities are remembered only when it is time to access social grants. But in this episode, we want to tell a different story — one of ambition, resilience, achievement, and success. People living with disabilities are pursuing their dreams, breaking barriers, and making their mark in society. Shango la Afrika Tshipembe, li na vhadzulapo vha 62 million. Security ill-treatment

Security guards play a vital role in keeping our communities, workplaces, and public spaces safe. But behind the uniform lies a different reality. Many say they work under harsh conditions, underpaid, exploited, and, in some cases, victimised. This week, Zwa Maramani goes beyond the uniform to uncover the challenges, sacrifices, and untold stories of the men and women who protect people and property every day.

Land Crisis

The report highlights allegations that communal land belonging to the Muananzhele CPA in Ballymore is being unlawfully demarcated and sold without the approval of beneficiaries or proper CPA resolutions, while proceeds from these sales allegedly do not reach the community. Vhembe Missing Children

Every five hours, a child goes missing in South Africa. According to statistics from the non-profit organization Missing Children South Africa, approximately 77% of missing children are found. However, this means that at least 23% of these children remain missing. Children disappear for many reasons, including abduction, kidnapping, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation, while others are tragically murdered. Youth Day Commemoration

As South Africa commemorates Youth Month - we remember the Soweto Uprising of 1976, when thousands of students took to the streets demanding the right to learn in the language of their choice. 50 years later, we ask: What has changed for the youth of 2026? Tonight we look at the commemorations, the challenges facing young people today as well as their future prospects.
